Call for Nominations - Join the Fireweed Food Co-op Board of Directors!

We are seeking dynamic and committed individuals from all across Manitoba (and potentially from outside Manitoba) to join our board of directors at Fireweed Food Cooperative for two-year terms. We’re hoping to connect and grow with folks with the following skills and qualifications:

  • Financial Acumen: Understanding of financial statements, budgeting, and fiscal management.

  • Leadership Experience: Experience on a board, or in management in a leadership role, with the ability to guide and inspire others.

  • Legal Expertise: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to understand law and policy. 

  • Industry Knowledge: Experience with the local food and agriculture sector.

  • Note: If you are interested in joining our board, we encourage you to apply even if your skills and experiences fall outside these parameters. Fireweed Food Co-op strives to promote diverse perspectives and foster an inclusive environment.

Among other board spots we are looking to fill the following three positions: â€‹

Treasurer
The Treasurer works closely with our office manager, ensuring accurate financial reporting, and overseeing budgets. The Treasurer works closely with staff to develop financial strategies that align with the organization’s mission related to local food systems, farming, and sustainability. The treasurer attends monthly finance committee meetings with staff in addition to bi-monthly board meetings.

Secretary
The Secretary plays a role in maintaining organizational records and facilitating communication among board members. This position involves taking detailed minutes during our bi-monthly meetings, managing official correspondence, and ensuring compliance with legal requirements for non-profit record keeping. The Secretary also assists in organizing meetings. 

 
Board Co-Chair
The Co-Chair collaborates with the Chair to lead the board and foster positive growth towards Fireweed’s strategic direction. This role involves facilitating board meetings, supporting committee initiatives, collaborating with staff on initiatives and ensuring that all voices are heard during Fireweed’s discussions. 

The Co-Chair also represents FFC in community - helping to grow our mission through their time at events and engaging with stakeholders to promote the organization's mission of advancing local food systems.
